Eric Dickerson joined the Duke coaching staff in March of 2018 and serves as a Football Analyst working primarily with special teams.
In 2019, Dickerson worked alongside assistant coach Kirk Benedict with Duke’s special teams and saw three individuals receive postseason honors in Damond Philyaw-Johnson, Austin Parker and AJ Reed. As Duke’s top return specialist, Philyaw-Johnson was an All-ACC and All-America selection after ranking second nationally in kickoff return average. Both Parker and Reed earned honorable mention All-ACC accolades as a punter and kicker, respectively.Â
Philyaw-Johnson matched the NCAA single-game record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns against Wake Forest and earned ACC Specialist of the Week honors for his performance. Parker punted 66 times for 3,018 yards (45.73) and had 24 kicks downed inside the opponent 20-yard line against six touchbacks. Reed recorded 79 points on 15-of-18 (.833) field goals and 34-of-34 (1.000) PAT conversions. He converted on a career-long field goal of 51 yards against Syracuse and was the only ACC kicker with three field goals of 49-plus yards.Â
During his first season with the Blue Devils while working with the offense, Dickerson helped the unit produce 31 touchdown passes, setting the program single-season record. The Blue Devils also closed the year as one of four ACC teams to compile 2,000 or more rushing yards and 3,100 or more passing yards, joining Clemson, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
A 2017 graduate of South Carolina State University, Dickerson spent the 2017 season at his alma mater, coaching the tight ends and fullbacks. On the gridiron, the Goose Creek, S.C., native was a four-year starter and two-year team captain as an offensive lineman, helping the Bulldogs to a pair of conference championships in 2013 and 2014.Â
Dickerson graduated from S.C. State in 2017 with a degree in political science.
