Bio
2006: Returning starter at defensive tackle ... has emerged into a true leader for the defensive unit ... has started more games — 25 — than any other active defensive tackle in the ACC ... has played in all 34 games since his arrival at Duke — tied with John Talley for the most among active Blue Devils ... begins final season with career totals of 101 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks ... ranks second among current Duke players in career snaps played with 1,676 (Talley; 1,961) ... had three tackles including a sack in the Spring Game.
2005: Started all 11 games ... recorded 39 tackles to rank 12th on the team ... added 4.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery ... picked up a career-high eight tackles in the Navy game ... had six stops including one for loss against Florida State ... recorded a half sack versus both VMI and Virginia Tech ... on the gridiron for a total of 589 snaps ... named Duke’s Most Improved Defensive Player at the program’s annual banquet.
2004: Started all 11 contests ... finished tied for ninth on the team with 47 total tackles ... led Duke in QB hurries with nine ... paced the Blue Devils and ranked second in the ACC with two caused fumbles ... also blocked three kicks on special teams, including a field goal that was returned 70 yards for a touchdown by Kenneth Stanford against North Carolina ... other blocked kicks came against Wake Forest (FG) and Connecticut (PAT) ... recorded a season-high seven tackles at Navy ... picked up six stops against Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina ... on the field for a total of 709 plays including a career-high 89 versus Virginia.
2003: Played in all 12 games with three starting assignments ... started versus Virginia, Northwestern and Florida State ... on the field for 378 total snaps ... finished with 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks ... had three stops against both Western Carolina and Clemson.
Prior to Duke: Enrolled at Duke in January of 2003 after spending the fall semester at Wyoming Seminary Prep in Kingston, Pa. ... as a team captain, helped Wyoming Seminary to a 6-2 record, leading the team in both tackles for loss (18) and quarterback sacks (7) ... as a senior at Jesuit, registered 83 tackles and 17 sacks while earning first team all-county and third team all-state honors ... helped Jesuit to a perfect 10-0 regular season record and a state playoff berth in 2001 ... played football for Bill Russo at Wyoming Seminary and for coach Dominick Ciao at Jesuit ... brothers, Joey and Matt, played football at South Florida.
