Christophe Duclos will enter his fifth year with the program in 2022 after joining the Duke coaching staff in August of 2017.
In 2021, Duclos was named Duke’s Incubation Fund Award winner. He helped co-create a virtual environment for fencing training and education programs. In the fall of 2021, he completed the first cohort of the ACC “Coaching the Whole Athlete Academy,” an eight-week virtual and immersive development program established by the league office that equips coaches with information, tools and skills of a humanistic approach to better support the needs of the student-athlete.
Duclos comes to Durham following his time as a master head coach at the Northwest Fencing Center. Prior to his tenure with the NWFC, Duclos served as a national coach at the Qatar Fencing Federation (2006-11) and at the Jordan Fencing Federation (2005-06).
Throughout the years, Duclos has seen great success as a French fencing master, including leading his junior men’s foil team to a bronze medal at the 2007 Asian Fencing Championships in Nantong, China. Duclos helped coach the first Qatari men’s foilist to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was a two-time Junior Men’s Foil Team U.S. National Champion in 2014 and 2015.
Duclos continues his wealth of international experience to Duke as he was a staff member at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. Duclos also served as the head coach for the Montelimar Fencing Club in France from 2000-03.
A native of Givet, France, Duclos was a member of the Cadet and Junior French National Team and graduated from The National Training Center in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and with a Fencing Master Level 2 diploma in 2003.
Outside of fencing, Duclos enjoys hiking, running, sailing and reading and is currently a member of the European Mountain Guides Association.
Duclos and his wife, Natacha, have two children, Lola and Zoé.
