Last Meeting: The Blue Devils and Tar Heels last met in 2000. The two teams met three times during the regular season and once in the ACC Tournament. UNC won all four meetings.

A Quick Look at the Blue Devils: The Blue Devils, who broke a five game losing streak on Tuesday, are currently in sixth place in the ACC standings. Duke, 18-24 overall, has won more games in the 2001 campaign than it did all of last season and at least 14 more games remain on the schedule in 2001.
The Blue Devils are coming off a 13-10 victory Tuesday night at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
Duke has been hit with injuries all season long. Sophomore first baseman Larry Broadway recently underwent surgery on his throwing arm. Junior Kevin Kelly (wrist), sophomore Troy Caradonna (hand) and senior Wes Goodner (shoulder) all have been banged up recently but have played through their injuries and getting healthier each day.
Carlyle Cup Implications: When the Tar Heels and Blue Devils meet this weekend there will be several possible headlines for the series. The two squads are separated by one loss in the ACC standings. UNC is 5-10 in conference play and in seventh place while the Blue Devils are in sixth place with a 5-9 mark.
Besides the school being arch rivals, there are Carlyle Cup implications riding on the series. The winner of the series will add three points to their respective teams Carlyle Cup point total. Duke currently leads the competition 20-17.
Emerging Ace: Sophomore Kevin Thompson has not only emerged as the leader of the Blue Devil pitching staff, but is also one of the best in the ACC.
The right hander is currently 7-3 with a 4.19 ERA. He leads the Blue Devils with 45 strikeouts, one complete game and ranks second in starts with 12.
Thompson is tied for wins in the ACC. He ranks fourth in the conference in innings pitched with 68.2, ninth in strikeouts (45) and second in games started with 11. Opponents are batting .258 against the Evans, W.V. native.
Mason Continues Solid Play: Senior David Mason has had a tremendous season in 2001. The Alexandria, Va., native, leads the Blue Devils in batting at .353. He continues to improve his average in the heart of the ACC schedule and at a time when most hitters are tiring.
Mason is tied for the team lead in hits with 55, ranks second in RBI with 29 and ranks fourth in runs scored with 27. He
