DURHAM, N.C. -- With Tuesday’s announcement of the 2018 Associated Press All-America Team, Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III has become the program’s 22nd consensus first-team All-American.
Bagley also garnered first-team All-America honors from the Sporting News, NABC and USBWA, completing the sweep of the consensus teams. The last Blue Devil to accomplish the feat was Jahlil Okafor in 2015. Luke Kennard was a consensus second-team pick last season. Of Duke's 22 consensus first-team selections, 18 have come under head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Bagley completed one of the great rookie season in ACC history, becoming the league’s first freshman to lead the conference in both scoring (21.0) and rebounding (11.1). He was just the third player in ACC history, regardless of class, to lead the league in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage (.614).
Duke’s freshman record-holder for points (694), scoring average (21.0), rebounds (366), rebounding average (11.1), 30-point games (seven), double-doubles (22), dunks (98), and a litany of others, Bagley was named both the ACC Player and Freshman of the Year.
In addition to his All-America honors, the 6-foot-11 forward from Phoenix, Ariz., is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, the James Naismith Award, and the Karl Malone Award.
