DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team was ranked No. 4 in the Preseason Associated Press poll released Monday, marking the sixth consecutive season that the Blue Devils have debuted in the top 5.
In 11 consecutive seasons, the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top 10 of the preseason AP poll. Duke’s streak of being ranked in the top 10 at least some point during a season is now extended to 23 consecutive years – the longest active streak in the nation. Kansas is second at 13.
Entering the 2018-19 season, head coach Mike Krzyzewski has a record of 543-100 when playing as a top-5 ranked team, and is 815-178 when playing as a top-10 ranked team.
Duke returns nine letterwinners from last year’s squad that went 29-8 overall, 13-5 in the ACC, and reached the Elite Eight. The squad also welcomes the No. 1-ranked recruiting class, which includes the top-three ranked players in RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish, and four of the top 10 (No. 10 Tre Jones).
The Blue Devils will host a pair of exhibition games at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 23 (vs. Virginia Union) and Saturday, Oct. 27 (vs. Ferris State) before the 2018-19 season opener vs. No. 2 Kentucky in the State Farms Champions Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
