The honor was the fourth of Jefferson’s career, making him the first student-athlete in Duke men’s basketball history to earn All-ACC Academic accolades four times. Allen earned the honor for the second time in as many seasons, and Jeter earned recognition in his first year as a college student.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative GPA during his academic career.
A history major from Philadelphia, Jefferson has career averages of 6.1 points and 5.7 rebounds in 115 career games at Duke. His 277 offensive rebounds rank sixth on Duke’s career chart. The two-time team captain has played in nine games this season, averaging career highs of 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds before being sidelined indefinitely with a foot fracture sustained in December.
Allen is the highest-scoring member of this year’s All-ACC Academic Team with a team-leading average of 20.9 points per game that also ranks second in the ACC. A psychology major from Jacksonville, Fla., Allen was named CoSIDA Academic All-District III in February, making him eligible for Academic All-America honors.
With averages of 20.9 points and 3.6 assists per game, Allen is vying to become just the ninth player to lead Duke in both scoring and assists in the same season. He is also on pace to become just the seventh Duke player to average better than 20 points and dish out more than 100 assists (currently 103) in a season. Recently-added special assistant Nolan Smith was the last to accomplish both feats, doing so in the 2010-11 season.
Allen is shooting 48.2 percent from the floor, 41.5 percent from beyond the arc and 84.9 percent from the free throw line this season. He has been named a finalist for both the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award and Oscar Robertson Trophy, awarded to the National Player of the Year by the USBWA.
A Las Vegas native, Jeter has played in 25 games as a freshman with averages of 1.7 points and 1.8 rebounds. He leads the team in charges drawn with seven on the year. He has yet to declare a major.
Duke returns to action tonight when it hosts Wake Forest for an 8 p.m. ET tip. The game will be televised on the ACC Network and broadcast on the radio via the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network.
