Setting the Scene... Fourth-seeded and 16th-ranked Duke (22-10) advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round for the 22nd straight year as the Blue Devils took down 14th-ranked Albany, 54-52, Friday and Duke will next take on fifth-seeded and 12th-ranked Mississippi State (27-6) Sunday, March 22 at 12:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Sunday’s contest will be aired on ESPN2 with Tiffany Greene (PBP) and LaChina Robinson (Color). It will also be carried live on the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network on WDNC 620 AM, 99.3 FM, 96.5 FM and www.GoDuke.com with Steve Barnes (PXP) and Morgan Patrick (Color) on the air.
Duke and Mississippi State are seeded in the Spokane Region and the winner will advance to the NCAA Sweet 16, which will take place Saturday, March 28 in Spokane, Wash.
The Blue Devils have won 19 out of the last 20 home NCAA Tournament games. Duke holds a 22-game winning streak in NCAA Tournament first round games, while
Joanne P. McCallie has led her teams to 12-straight opening round tournament wins. The 22-game streak is the longest in the ACC (Florida State, 11).
Duke will bring a 13-game home court winning streak into Sunday’s game, while also boasting a four-game winning streak in Cameron against ranked opponents.
A Look at Mississippi State... Mississippi State (27-6) is currently ranked No. 12 nationally and received an at-large bid to the tournament. The Bulldogs downed Tulane, 57-47, in the first round to advance.
On the season, Victoria Vivians (14.8 points, 66 treys), Martha Alwal (9.7 points, 6.7 rebounds) and Morgan William (9.0 points, 138 free throws) have led the Bulldogs. Mississippi State is making its seventh appearance in the NCAAs.
The Series with Mississippi State... Duke and Mississippi State have met only one time in school history as the two squads played Nov. 25, 1995 with Duke earning a 72-67 win over the Bulldogs in the University of New Orleans Tournament.
Duke Versus the SEC... The Blue Devils have totaled a 36-18 all-time record against teams from the SEC -- Alabama (2-1), Arkansas (2-1), Auburn (5-0), Florida (2-1), Georgia (3-0), Kentucky (5-1), LSU (3-2), Mississippi State (1-0), South Carolina (1-2), Tennessee (6-5), Texas A&M (1-3) and Vanderbilt (5-2).
This season, Duke has totaled a 2-2 record against the SEC.
Coach P owns an 18-17 against teams from the SEC -- Alabama (4-2), Auburn (2-0), Georgia (1-2), Kentucky (4-1), LSU (1-3), Mississippi State (0-2), Tennessee (2-2), Texas A&M (1-3), South Carolina (0-1) and Vanderbilt (3-1).
NCAA Tournament Tidbits... • The Basics...Duke is making its 21st consecutive and 22nd overall trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils have been seeded No. 4 for the second time in school history, which is the highest seed since 1997 (No. 5). Duke played in the postseason on two other occasions, making it to the Women’s NIT in 1986 and the NCAA Tournament in 1987.
Duke now owns an all-time record of 54-21 in NCAA Tournament play and is 55-22 in all postseason action. The Blue Devils have hosted NCAA Tournament games 13 times out of 22 appearances.
Prior to this season, Duke previously hosted first and second round games in Cameron from 1998-2002, 2004, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. Overall, Duke owns a 22-2 record in NCAA Tournament action in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
• The History...Each time Duke has been in the NCAA Tournament, it has won at least one game. The Blue Devils have advanced to a regional in 15 out of the last 17 years. Duke had reached at least the Sweet 16 in 11 consecutive years prior to a loss to Michigan State in 2008-09 in the second round. Duke has made it to the Elite Eight in 11 of the last 17 years.
Duke also advanced to the Final Four in 2002 and 2003 and the National Championship game in 1999 and 2006. The Blue Devils own a 44-16 record in their last 60 NCAA Tournament games.
• The Coach...Head Coach
Joanne P. McCallie is making her 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including her 13th straight, while producing a 27-18 record. While at Maine, she totaled a 1-6 record that included an upset victory over seventh-seeded Stanford (60-58) in 1999. Her Maine squad was seeded 10th and then fell to Old Dominion on its home court, 72-62, in the second round.
During her time at Michigan State, McCallie guided the Spartans to a 9-5 mark. She led MSU to five straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won at least one game in four consecutive years. In 2005, McCallie’s squad had an incredible run through the tournament, knocking off Alcorn State, USC, 18th-ranked Vanderbilt, top-ranked Stanford and third-ranked Tennessee before falling to fifth-ranked Baylor in the national championship game. McCallie was awarded National Coach of the Year for her efforts.
At Duke, McCallie owns a 17-7 record in the tournament.
As a player, McCallie led Northwestern to the 1987 NCAA Tournament her senior year. The Wildcats traveled to Louisiana Tech and lost, 82-60, in the first round.
• The Seedings...In the last 21 seasons, Duke has not been lower than a No. 5 seed and has been a No. 1 seed seven times. The Blue Devils have been seeded no lower than fourth since 1997. Duke’s seven No. 1 seeds rank as the fifth-most in NCAA Tournament history. Leading the list is Tennessee (22), followed by Connecticut (19), Louisiana Tech (10), Stanford (10) and Duke (7).
Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes... •
Elizabeth Williams’ nine blocks against Albany in the first round is tied for the fourth-most in NCAA history during the first and second rounds. It is also a Duke NCAA Tournament record.
• The Blue Devils are 2-1 against No. 5 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, including winners of two in a row. Coach P is 2-1 versus No. 5 seeds as well with wins against two straight.
•
Elizabeth Williams is the only player in ACC history to register over 1,800 points, 1,000 rebounds and 400 blocks.
• In three postseason games,
Rebecca Greenwell has averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 assists. She has hit 45.0 percent from downtown (9-of-20).
• The Blue Devils netted seven three-pointers made against Albany, which is the most for Duke since Jan. 15, 2015 against Virginia Tech (8) in Cameron.
• Duke turned the ball over a season-high 27 times against Albany and the Great Danes scored 33 of their 52 points off the Blue Devils’ turnovers.
• Senior Ka’lia Johnson was held scoreless for the first time this season as she missed all three of her field goal attempts against Albany.

Amber Henson tied a career high with 10 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament first round, while scoring seven points and tying a career high with three assists. She has hit seven of her 10 three-pointers this season in Cameron.
• The Blue Devils won their first game of the season when scoring less than 60 points (1-8).
• Duke is currently ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA RPI.
• The Blue Devils have been seeded in the West region for the fifth time in school history - 2012, 2009, 2001, 1998.
• Freshman
Azurá Stevens has averaged 17.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks the last five home games in Cameron.
• Over the last five games,
Elizabeth Williams has averaged 14.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals. This includes three double-doubles.
• Duke has allowed the second-most three-point field goals made in school history with 229. The most the Blue Devils have allowed in a season was 244 in 2013-14.
• Since the season started, Duke has gone from a 12-member squad to a 9-member team with the loss of
Lyneé Belton (torn ACL),
Oderah Chidom (dislocated shoulder) and
Sierra Calhoun (transfer). This includes walk-on turned scholarship recipient

Elizabeth Williams needs 75 points to reach 2,000 in her career. She has moved into 17th place on the ACC career rebound list with 1,060 boards.

Mercedes Riggs is 0-of-10 from three-point range the last seven games, but has hit 9-of-15 treys at home.

Elizabeth Williams now leads all centers nationally with a 2.5 assists per game average. She averaged 1.6 assists as a freshman, 1.3 as a sophomore and 2.2 as a junior.
• The Blue Devils are the only team in the ACC to boast two players averaging 8.3 rebounds or better (
Elizabeth Williams at 9.0,
Azurá Stevens at 8.3).
• Ka’lia Johnson (10) and
Elizabeth Williams (9) lead Duke in charges taken this season. Williams owns 28 over her career.
• Senior Ka’lia Johnson ranks fifth in the ACC with a 3.8 assist per game average. She has dished 120 assists this season and had 39 assists her first three years combined.
• Duke’s 10 losses on the season equal the most under Coach P since arriving in Durham in 2007-08. The Blue Devils lost 10 in her first season (25-10).
• Duke is the only team in the ACC that featured four straight road games during league play.
• Duke had a very challenging slate in 2014-15, ranking No. 4 nationally in strength of schedule -- Tennessee (1), Kentucky (2), Notre Dame (3), Duke (4), Vanderbilt (5).
• The Blue Devils have reached 10 league victories for the 18th straight season. The streak is the longest in the ACC with the next closest being UNC (2).

• Duke has averaged 54.9 points in the 10 losses this season, while hitting 34.6 percent of its field goals.

Greenwell’s Stellar NCAA Opener... Redshirt freshman
Rebecca Greenwell became just the seventh freshman in Duke history to register 20+ scoring in a NCAA Tournament game with her 20 points on a career-high six three-pointers against Albany in the first round. The six three-pointers broke the Duke freshman record for three-pointers made in a game and was one shy of school record.
She is just the third Blue Devil rookie to register 20+ scoring in her first NCAA Tournament contest (Alana Beard & Rometra Craig).
Her six three-pointers tied Abby Waner for a Duke NCAA Tournament record, while her 11 attempts is tied for second.
Final Game in Cameron for Seniors... Blue Devils seniors
Elizabeth Williams,
Jenna Frush and Ka’lia Johnson will play their final contest in Cameron Sunday against Mississippi State. The trio have led Duke to a 58-6 record in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
A win Sunday would tie the Duke school record for most home wins a single season of 17, which has only happened in 2010-11 (17-0).
Against the Ranked... Duke owns a 5-7 record on the season against ranked opponents, but has won three out of the last five contests.
In those games,

Rebecca Greenwell (13.0) have led the Blue Devils.
Greenwell has drained 42.1 percent of her three-point field goals against ranked foes, while leading Duke with 38 free throws made.

Block Watch... Senior
Elizabeth Williams needs 11 swats to break the ACC career record for blocked shots, which is held by former Duke standout Alison Bales (434).
In 30 games, Williams has swatted 93 shots, an average of 3.1 a game.
Williams ranks ninth on the NCAA career rejection list with 424 and needs four to move into a tie for eighth. Against Buffalo, Florida State and at Wake Forest this season, she was held without a block for only the second, third and fourth time as a college player.
Top Freshmen Nationally... Azurá Stevens’ 8.3 rebounds per game ranks as the eighth-highest average among freshmen nationally. Her 115 offensive rebounds ranks second nationally for rookies.
Rebecca Greenwell’s 68 three-pointers ranks sixth most by rookies in the nation.
Greenwell and Stevens are the 11th and 12th-highest freshmen scorers in the nation, respectively.
In the Duke NCAA Record Books... Elizabeth Williams ranks second on Duke’s NCAA Tournament career blocks list in only 11 games, while ranking tied 12th on the NCAA list.

Greenwell Owns School Record for Threes... Rookie
Rebecca Greenwell continues to have an outstanding freshman campaign and is now the Duke record holder for three-pointers made and attempted.
Her 68 three-pointers made ranks first ahead of the previous record holder Abby Waner (50 in 2005-06). Greenwell has also moved into fourth on the ACC single season list.
Greenwell has attempted a Duke school-record 181 three-pointers and ranks third on the ACC charts.
