DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing was selected the ACC Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after leading the Blue Devils to road victories at No. 10 Boston College and No. 17 Boston University over the weekend.
Blazing and the Duke defense limited the Eagles to just one score on 17 shots in a 2-1, come-from-behind victory Friday evening. Blazing’s eight saves marked her second-highest total on the season, with two of the stops coming on a final Boston College penalty corner opportunity at the end of the contest. The Durham, N.C., native collected her second shutout of the fall Sunday in a 1-0 overtime win over Boston University, keeping the Terriers off the board for all 83 minutes of action.
Blazing has guided the Blue Devils to a 10-3 mark on the year, and owns a 1.21 goals against average and a .789 save percentage to rank among the top 10 goalkeepers in the country. In addition, she has surrendered just one goal in the last four contests (281 minutes).
Tuesday's announcement marked the second consecutive week a Duke player received ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors after sophomore back Alyssa Chillano netted the accolade Oct. 6.
Fourth-ranked Duke faces two more ranked opponents this week, traveling to No. 3 North Carolina Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 18 James Madison Sunday at 1 p.m.
