DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander J.R. Holloway has decided to leave Duke University school officials announced Friday. Holloway departs Duke in good academic standing and is expected to transfer.
“We want to thank J.R. for his hard work and commitment to Duke baseball over the past year and a half,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “During his time at Duke, J.R. was a great representative for this program both on and off the field. We wish him the best for continued success in his future endeavors.”
As a freshman in 2014, Holloway appeared in 14 games, starting one. Holloway posted a 1.98 ERA over 13.2 innings of work and did not permit a run over his final 10 outings. He pitched in five ACC contests without yielding a run. Overall, Holloway struck out 12 batters and walked five during his freshman season.
Duke opens the 2015 season Feb. 13-15, traveling to Berkeley, Calif., for a three-game series against California.
