DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team got into the holiday spirit, visiting the Sickle Cell Unit in Duke’s Children’s Hospital in Durham, N.C., and bringing cheer to those receiving care. The patients in the hospital weren’t the only ones excited about the visit, however. Today’s feature shares the thoughts and reactions of the team as they stopped by the children’s hospital.
Junior guard
Rasheed Sulaimon provides his thoughts on the inspiration he gains from the children he visits, while also looking at the experience as an opportunity to learn about the disease. Freshman center
Jahlil Okafor joins Sulaimon in sharing his own impressions of the time spent with the children, and how the visit provides perspective for both himself and his teammates.
Joey McMahon, a former Duke basketball manager and recent founder of The Monday Life, a non-profit organization, expands on the importance of making people more aware of sickle cell disease. Head coach
Mike Krzyzewski and junior center
Marshall Plumlee also reflect on the experience of the trip to the hospital.
Two new features from the Coach K show will be available each week throughout the season on GoDuke.com
