SAITAMA, Japan - Blue Devils Mollie Pathman and Kelly Cobb led the United States Under-20 National Team to a 2-1 overtime win over Korea DPR on Friday morning in the quarterfinal of the Women's U-20 World Cup in Japan. The U.S. will now battle Nigeria in the semifinals on Sept. 4 for a spot in the World Cup Final.
A sophomore forward, Cobb started her second match of the World Cup up front for the U. S. alongside Kealia Ohai, and leading U.S. goal scorer Maya Hayes. Cobb created some dangerous opportunities for the U.S., and helped the United States outshoot Korea, 14-7, in the game. Cobb was substituted in the 61st minute for Samantha Mewis.
Pathman, a junior from Durham, N.C., started the game as a defender and has now played every minute of the World Cup, bringing her total for the tournament to 390 minutes.
The U.S. is slated to face a strong Nigerian side, who defeated the U. S., in the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA U-20 World Cup Sept. 4 at 2:50 a.m. ET. The match will be shown live on ESPN3 and ESPNU.
