BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS -- Greetings from the British Virgin Islands! We’re almost done with our vacation, but it has been a blast. The first day we spent getting settled into our 62-foot catamaran crewed by Peter and Darcy.
They’ve kept us well fed with to-die-for, five star meals and busy with activities such as blindfolded kayak races, snorkeling in caves, tubing and rock climbing. We spent a day jumping off the Willy T, an abandoned pirate ship of William Thornton. Kim represented DWS well with her strength when she beat another vacationer in a chin-up contest there. Libby also proved her DWS foot skills with the dance moves that won her the Willy T dance contest.
We spent hours exploring the rocks and caves at the Baths on Virgin Gorda. Even though the lizards surrounding the entrance to the Baths almost gave Erin a heart attack, the experience was one that will never be forgotten. We’ve been to amazing, postcard-worthy places such as Saba Rock, Cooper Island, Trellis Bay, Bitter End, Cane Garden Bay, Jost van Dyke and many more. We met the world famous Foxy from Foxy’s Tamarind Bar and left our mark there by hanging a Duke Soccer t-shirt from the rafters.
We’ve spent our free time while sailing between islands catching rays, listening to music, and playing Catchphrase with Kasey, Erin’s sister, and her teammates Reilly and Rachel off the N.C. State women’s soccer team. We’ve bonded well with the girls but we joke that it’s back to business when we play in the fall. Our six-day vacation in these beautiful islands was a great way to kick off the summer.
