DURHAM, N.C. - Quinn Cook and Austin Rivers have each been selected to play in the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit and are among eight USA Basketball gold medalists named to the USA Junior National Select Team.
Cook, a guard from Oak Hill Academy and native of Bowie, Md., was a member of both the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship. He has three teammates from that squad joining him for the Nike Hoop Summit, including Brad Beal (Chaminade College Prep/St. Louis, Mo.), James McAdoo (Norfolk Christian/ Norfolk, Va.) and Adonis Thomas (Melrose H.S./Cordova, Tenn.).
Rivers, a guard from Winter Park, Fla., was the leading scorer for team USA at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship this past summer. He averaged 20.2 points per game while helping the U.S. to a 5-0 record.
Also named to the team were Michael Gilchrist (St. Patrick H.S./Somerdale, N.J.), Marquis Teague (Pike H.S./Indianapolis, Ind.), Tony Wroten (Garfield H.S./Seattle, Wash.), Rakeem Christmas (Academy of the New Church/Philadelphia, Pa.) and Anthony Davis (Perspectives Charter/Chicago, Ill.). The head coach will be Kevin Sutton, who is in his eighth season as head coach at Montverde Academy in Florida.
The Nike Hoop Summit is America's elite, high school athletes playing against a World Select Team comprised of top international players 19-years-old or younger. The game will take place at 10 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, April 9 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore.
