Duke Seeded No. 2 in the Memphis Region; Will Host Hampton on Saturday...
The sixth-ranked Duke women's basketball team (27-5, 12-2 ACC) was seeded No. 2 in the Memphis Region and will host the 2010 NCAA Tournament first and second rounds at Cameron Indoor Stadium on March 20 and 22, 2010, while welcoming Hampton (20-11), LSU (20-9) and Hartford (27-4).
Second-seeded Duke will host 15th-seeded Hampton on Saturday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m., and seventh-seeded LSU will face 10th-seeded Hartford at 12:00 p.m. Both contests will be aired live on ESPN2 with Beth Mowins (PXP) and Stephanie Ready (Color) calling the action.
Fans can also hear the Blue Devils on the Duke ISP Radio Network on WDNC AM 620 with Steve Barnes (PXP) and Morgan Patrick (Color) on the air. The radio is also available online at www.GoDuke.com.
Duke is currently ranked No. 6 in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll. LSU is listed No. 21 in the Associated Press poll.

Junior Jasmine Thomas has started 56 straight games ... Duke is 19-0 this season when holding opponents to 60 or under points ... the Blue Devils have posted a 23-0 record this year when shooting above 40.0 percent from the field and are 0-5 when under that mark ... during the first 11 games of 2009, Duke only took five charges, but over the last 21 contests the players have taken 24 (Shay Selby - 8, Karima Christmas - 6, Allison Vernerey - 5) ... A Look At Hampton...
Hampton (20-11) won its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship - an automatic NCAA bid - since 2004, when the Lady Pirates defeated South Carolina State, 57-46, in Winston-Salem, N.C., on March 13. On the season, Hampton has been led by Quanneisha Perry (13.0 points, 9.3 rebounds), Jericka Jenkins (9.8 points, 65 treys), Bernadette Fortune (9.7 points, 2.3 rebounds) and Whitney Hill (8.1 points). Head Coach David Six has led Hampton to six straight wins and the Lady Pirates are winners of 14 out of their last 15 contests.
The Series With Hampton...
Duke and Hampton have met a total of three times in the series history with the Blue Devils notching a 3-0 record. The Blue Devils and Lady Pirates faced each other in back-to-back seasons during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 campaigns with Duke winning 71-34 and 70-59. The other meeting came in 1998 in Cameron Indoor Stadium with Duke taking down Hampton, 83-47.
Blue Devil Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie has never faced Hampton as a head coach.

Duke owns an all-time record of 10-2 against teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference -- Florida A&M (1-0), Hampton (3-0), Howard (2-0), Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-2), Morgan State (1-0), Norfolk State (1-0) and N.C. State (1-0).

Coach P Nets Another First...
Blue Devil Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie captured her sixth conference championship over her 18-year career as a head coach when Duke won the ACC Championship on March 7. She won the North Atlantic Championship in 1995 and 1996, won the America East Championship in 1997 and 1998, the Big Ten Championship in 2005 and the ACC Championship in 2010.
She become the first Division I coach to notch conference championships in four different conferences. Coach P also became the first Division I coach to be named a conference coach of the year in four different conferences in 2010.
Duke Players In The NCAA Tournament...
Senior Joy Cheek has appeared in a team-high eight NCAA Tournament contests over her career. She is coming off averaging 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals last year in two games. She had eight points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Michigan State.
In five career games, Jasmine Thomas has averaged 9.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists, while hitting 35.7 percent of her three-point field goals. She has totaled double-digit scoring in three of the five contests with a career-best coming last year against Michigan State with 14 points.
Karima Christmas is coming off notching 13 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot at Michigan State last year.
Senior Keturah Jackson has one double-figure scoring game in the NCAA Tournament over her career as she notched 10 points against Texas A&M as a sophomore.
Coming Off an ACC Championship; What Happened Next?..
Duke has won six ACC Championships over its history -- 2000-04 and in 2010. Duke went on to advance to the NCAA Final Four in 2002 and 2003, while falling in the Sweet 16 in 2000 and 2001 and the Elite Eight in 2004.
McCallie In Tournament Play...
In her 18 years as a head coach, Joanne P. McCallie has taken 14 teams to the NCAA Tournament and produced a 13-13 record. While at Maine, she totaled a 1-6 record that included an upset victory over seventh-seeded Stanford (60-58) in 1999. Her Maine squad was seeded 10th and then fell to Old Dominion on its home court, 72-62, in the second round.
During her time at Michigan State, McCallie guided the Spartans to a 9-5 mark. She led MSU to five straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won at least one game four consecutive years.
In 2005, McCallie's squad had an incredible run through the tournament knocking off Alcorn State, USC, 18th-ranked Vanderbilt, top-ranked Stanford and third-ranked Tennessee before falling to fifth-ranked Baylor in the national championship game. McCallie was awarded National Coach of the Year for her efforts.
As a player, McCallie led Northwestern to the 1987 NCAA Tournament her senior year. The Wildcats traveled to Louisiana Tech and lost, 82-60, in the first round.
In two years at Duke so far, Coach P has led Duke to a 3-2 record in two NCAA appearances.
McCallie has won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament in six consecutive years.
Wins In The NCAA Tournament...
Duke has posted the third-best win total in the last 12 years of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils own 36 victories and rank only behind Connecticut (51) and Tennessee (49). LSU (29) and Purdue (27) are the next closest teams.
Overall, Duke's 40 wins in the NCAA Tournament ranks seventh all-time -- Tennessee (104), Connecticut (71), Louisiana Tech (65), Stanford (56), Georgia (48), Purdue (42), Duke (40), North Carolina (39).
Consecutive Appearances...
The Blue Devils are one of only five teams competing in their 16th straight NCAA Tournament-- Tennessee (29), Stanford (23), UConn (22), Duke (16) and Georgia (16).
Coach P in Elite Company...
Blue Devil Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie is one of only 16 current head coaches in NCAA Division I who have both played and coached in the NCAA Tournament. Only McCallie, Baylor's Kim Mulkey, Kellie Harper, MaChelle Joseph and Jennifer Rizzotti led their team to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
Coach P led Northwestern to the tournament in 1987 and also coached 14 different teams as a head coach.
Duke Versus The Field...
Duke has notched an 10-4 record against teams in 2009-10 who received invitations to the NCAA Tournament -- Connecticut (0-1), Temple (1-0), James Madison (1-0), Virginia (1-0), Florida State (1-0), Ohio State (1-0), Stanford (0-1), North Carolina (1-1), Texas A&M (0-1), N.C. State (2-0) and Georgia Tech (2-0).
The Blue Devils played two No. 1 seeds (UConn, Stanford), two No. 2 seeds (Ohio State and Texas A&M) and one No. 3 seed (Florida State) in the field.
In comparing the top eight seeds of the 2010 tournament, Duke played four of those, which ranks tied for second in the field. Oklahoma played five, while Rutgers and Texas also faced four of the top eight seeds.
Duke As a No. 2 Seed...
The Blue Devils are a No. 2 seed for the fourth time in school history. Duke owns an all-time record of 8-3 when seeded No. 2. The Blue Devils previously earned No. 2 seeds in the 1998, 2000 and 2005 tournaments.
Joanne P. McCallie has led a team to a No. 2 seed for the first time in her coaching career.
Road to San Antonio...
The last time the NCAA Final Four was held in San Antonio, Texas, Duke advanced to its second final four in school history in 2002. The Blue Devils downed Norfolk State, TCU, Texas and South Carolina before falling to Oklahoma, 86-71, in the NCAA Final Four.
Duke was a No. 1 seed in 2002 and also hosted the first and second rounds.
Reaching the 20-Point Mark...
Six different Blue Devils have registered 20+ points in a game this season, which leads the ACC. Allison Vernerey, Jasmine Thomas, Krystal Thomas, Bridgette Mitchell, Joy Cheek and Bridgette Mitchell have all scored 20 or more points this year in a game. Both Georgia Tech and Maryland are second with five different players.
In the NCAA Tournament field of 64 teams, Duke and Gonzaga feature the most 20+ point scorers of the teams with six each.
A Look Back at the ACC Tournament...
Duke claimed its sixth overall ACC Championship -- 2000-04 and 2010 -- and first under Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie.
Over the three games, Jasmine Thomas averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals, while hitting 61.5 percent of her three-point field goals. She hit 8-of-13 treys on the weekend. Thomas joined the ranks of Monique Currie, Georgia Schweitzer and Iciss Tillis (two times) as the only Duke players to be named ACC Tournament MVP. She scored 21, 10 and 18 points in the three games to lead Duke.
Karima Christmas notched averages of 13.0 points. 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals, while hitting 50.0 percent of her field goals and 57.1 percent from downtown. Joy Cheek averaged 11.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals.
As a squad, Duke led all teams with a 47.4 three-point field goal percentage as the Blue Devils hit 18-of-38 from downtown.
Record In March...
Duke owns a 71-24 record in March since 1992-93. The Blue Devils are 61-15 the last 12 years. Overall in the 34 years of women's basketball, the Blue Devils are 77-40.
