DURHAM, N.C. – In the last meeting between Duke and Virginia on October 31, 2009, quarterback Thaddeus Lewis threw a 42-yard game-winning touchdown pass to wide receiver Conner Vernon with 3:45 left in the game to lift the Blue Devils to a 28-17 triumph over the Cavaliers in front of 41,713 spectators at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
Following the go-ahead scoring strike, Duke added a seven-yard fumble return for a touchdown by nose guard Charlie Hatcher and a 43-yard field goal by kicker Will Snyderwine to account for the final margin.
Lewis finished 24-of-40 for 343 yards, thus becoming one of three players in ACC history to throw for 2,000 or more yards in four seasons, while Snyderwine booted five field goals — matching the fourth best single-game performance in ACC history.
For the second straight week, both Vernon (7-103) and wide receiver Donovan Varner (7-113) topped the 100-yard mark.
