Upcoming Event: Women's Soccer versus Wake Forest on August 5, 2026 at 7 p.m.

DURHAM, N.C. - GoDuke.com sat down with freshman offensive lineman Dave Harding on Friday to talk about his missionary work overseas and about trying to make a name for himself in his new number.
Dave Harding Q&A
GoDuke.com: Why Did You Choose Duke?
Dave Harding: I loved the coaching staff. I fell in love with the way they carried themselves and their plan to turn the program around. The balance of football and academics is impossible to beat no matter where else I looked.
GD: Any Brothers or Sisters?
DH: I have two younger sisters.
GD: What number did you wear in high school?
DH: No. 71 ... I asked for it here but after I have practiced a little bit I realized that this is nothing like high school and it is time to make a new name for myself. I am excited about wearing No. 74 and getting better at it.
GD: What sport would you play besides football?
DH: I like playing basketball a lot but I am not very good at it. It is a good workout and a good way to have fun.
GD: What was your favorite NFL team and player growing up?
DH: To be honest I didn't really watch that much football growing up. I would have to say my favorite team is Miami and I like Jake Long a lot.
GD: What websites do you visit most?
DH: Facebook, rivals.com and my gmail account.
GD: What do you like to do outside of football?
DH: I like to fish a lot and I like to travel doing mission work overseas. We lived on a small lake and I caught two ten pound bass within an hour once. I also caught a five foot shark so I have had some good times. As a family we travel to Ethiopia every summer for the past six or seven years. This summer was the first one I wasn't able to go with them. We go help drill low cost water wells for people who need water as part of my dad's organization.
GD: Who is your roommate this year?
DH: Ryan Hall. We are both from Orlando and met each other on different recruiting trips.
GD: After football what job would you like to have?
DH: Maybe something in the business or political world. I like dealing with people and think they are interesting. I am still undecided in a major but am looking at something like that.
GD: Do you have any interesting talents?
DH: I can speak Arabic. A lot of people don't know that. I actually lived in the country Georgia for five or six years.
