DURHAM, N.C. - GoDuke.com sat down with freshman linebacker Austin Gamble on Tuesday to talk about his success in track and field and what he has in common with his roommate.
Austin Gamble Q&A
GoDuke.com: Why Did You Choose Duke?
Austin Gamble: Mostly because of the opportunity with Coach Cutcliffe and the opportunity to start something new. Also because of the education.
GD: Any Brothers or Sisters?
AG: I have one older brother who currently goes to school at Florida Atlantic University and a younger brother who is in middle school.
GD: What number did you wear in high school?
AG: No. 45 ... I was lucky to get my number again in college. It is a number that was given to me in little league.
GD: What sport would you play besides football?
AG: I would compete in track and field. I competed in the throwing events, shot put and discus, during high school. I was the state champion in the discus.
GD: What was your favorite NFL team and player growing up?
AG: I never really had one. I just watched all the teams and all the players.
GD: What websites do you visit most?
AG: Floridarunners.com which is a track site in Florida. Also track nationally, facebook and aol.com.
GD: What do you like to do outside of football?
AG: I really like track so I usually practice whenever I have time. I also like playing video games and listening to music.
GD: Who is your roommate this year?
AG: Tyree Glover. He is another linebacker from Florida.
GD: After football what job would you like to have?
AG: A job that is within sports. Maybe working in strength and conditioning or coaching.
