DURHAM, N.C. - GoDuke.com sat down with freshman offensive lineman John Coleman to discuss why basketball didn't work out for him and how he enjoys playing guitar outside of football.
John Coleman Q&A
GoDuke.com: Why Did You Choose Duke?
John Coleman: When you think about the academics you really honestly can't beat them. The coaching staff is fantastic and I really liked the guys coming in with me.
GD: Any Brothers or Sisters?
JC: I have two older sisters, one is 29 and the other is 26. They both went to Wofford.
GD: What number did you wear in high school?
JC: No. 76 ... I would have liked to have it here but when it comes down to it if you can play, you can play so it doesn't really matter.
GD: What sport would you play besides football?
JC: Basketball but there is just not a lot of schools looking for 6'5" centers.
GD: What was your favorite NFL team and player growing up?
JC: I always loved Brett Favre, the way he played the game and how he seemed down-to-earth. I have always been a Packers fan.
GD: What websites do you visit most?
JC: Facebook and Rivals.com.
GD: What do you like to do outside of football?
JC: I play a lot of music. I play guitar and have played a couple of small shows around my hometown. Especially acoustic stuff, I enjoy being around music. I used to play worship music for my church and I play folk music like Bob Dylan. I also like to hunt and fish and be outdoors. That has been a huge part of my life growing up and I sure do enjoy it. That is going to be something interesting about this fall is I won't have a chance to do that but football is worth that sacrifice.
GD: Who is your roommate this year?
JC: Joey Finison
GD: After football what job would you like to have?
JC: I am thinking about going to law school but I could change my mind tomorrow. Definitely something to do with law or business though.
