DURHAM, N.C. - Senior defensive tackle Vince Oghobaase was listed on another preseason awards watch list on Thursday when the Bednarik Award listed him among the 55 players to watch for the top defensive player in college football.
Oghobaase, a Houston, Texas native, has also been named to the Outland Trophy Watch List and the Lott Trophy Watch List. He enters his final season at Duke with 128 career tackles, 29 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. He has started in 36 consecutive games for the Blue Devils and ranks among the ACC active leaders in sacks (2nd) and tackles for loss (3rd). A 2009 preseason All-ACC selection, Oghobaase is tied for ninth in school history with 11.5 sacks and needs one tackle for loss to move into Duke's top-10.
Of the 55 players on the watch list, Oghobaase is among seven total players from the ACC on the list. There are 10 total defensive tackles on the list, including Oghobaase and North Carolina's Marvin Austin. Also from the ACC is Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett, North Carolina linebacker Quan Sturdivant, Virginia Tech defensive end Jason Worilds, Maryland linebacker Alex Wujciak and N.C. State defensive end Willie Young.
Semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced on November 4th and three finalists for the award will be announced November 23rd. The winner of the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show which will be held on December 10, 2009. The formal presentation of this award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club.
