DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke University senior Jennie Lee has turned professional and will make her debut on the Duramed FUTURES Tour this week as she will compete in the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge in Marion, Iowa from June 5-7.
Lee, who was a three-time All-America and four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honoree at Duke University, recently graduated with a degree in sociology and helped lead the Blue Devils to a sixth place finish at the NCAA Championship on May 22. She seemed to play the best golf of her career when it mattered the most as Lee notched three top 15 finishes in NCAA Championship action.
As a senior, Lee registered a career-best 73.09 stroke average and collected four top five and seven top 20 finishes. Her stroke averaged was the second-best in the ACC and Lee concluded the season ranked No. 11 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. She earned second team National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America.
During her Duke career, Lee compiled 29 top 20 finishes, 15 top 10 ledgers and guided the Blue Devils to 19 team victories in four years. She was the NCAA runner-up as a freshman, while leading Duke to team NCAA Championships as a freshman and sophomore in 2005 and 2006. Lee, a native of Henderson, Nev., is one of only 12 ACC players in history to be named All-ACC four times.
A two-time member of the U.S. Curtis Cup in 2006 and 2008, Lee has played in two career LPGA events as she was tied for the low amateur at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open with rounds of 71, 74, 75 and 74 for a total of 294. She also played in the 2006 U.S. Open, but missed the cut with two rounds of 76.
In November of 2008, Lee competed in the Duramed FUTURES Tour qualifying school and she finished tied for 25th with rounds of 72, 75, 71 and 72 for a total of 290.
The Ladies Titan Tire Challenge this week will be played at the Hunters Ridge Golf Course. It will feature 54 holes with 18 played each day, while there will also feature a pro-am on June 3 and 4. The purse is $110,000 with the winner receiving $15,400 and the runner-up to obtain $11,000.
