DURHAM, N.C. - Joe Germanese sat down with GoDuke.com for his senior profile on Sept. 27, 2007. Get to know Germanese, including his favorite book, favorite movie and the reason he choose Duke, plus much more.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite professional team?
Joe Germanese: My favorite professional team is Arsenal because not only are they the best team right now in the Premiership, but they also play the most attractive football team/passing football in all of Europe.
GD: Who is your favorite professional player in your sport?
JG: My favorite player is Arsenal’s Alexander Hleb because I feel like we have similar playing styles. He’s a midfielder who is very active and sets up his teammates and that is what I try to do out on the field.
GD: What’s your favorite book?
JG: The Alchemist.
GD: What’s the last non-school related book you read?
JG: Monkey Business.
GD: What’s your favorite TV show?
JG: The Office, and Curb Your Enthusiasm is a close second.
GD: What’s your favorite food?
JG: Chicken and Pasta.
GD: What would your dream job be?
JG: To own an English Premiership team.
GD: Think 10 years down the road, what will you be doing?
JG: Working as an investment banker or consultant advising sports franchises.
GD: Who’s had the most impact on your athletic career and why?
JG: My parents because they have been supportive of my soccer playing from day one. They were the ones who drove me to practice when I was a kid and who still come to games whenever they can.
GD: What’s your favorite memory to date of your college career?
JG: My favorite memory to date is winning the ACC Tournament last year in overtime. I scored the game-winning goal against Maryland in the semifinal.
GD: What would the perfect end to your athletic career look like?
JG: We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves, but the perfect end would be winning the national championship in Cary this December with the 12 other seniors in my class and sending Coach Rennie out with a championship in his final season in front of friends and family.
GD: What’s the best advise you’ve ever received?
JG: So much of what determines success isn’t necessarily what happens to you but what you make of your situation.

JG: College basketball.

JG: Enjoy yourselves because college goes by way faster than you realize.
