GREENSBORO, N.C. ? Duke guard Martynas Pocius earned a spot on the 10-member 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team as announced on Thursday by Commissioner John Swofford. Pocius is one of six players along with Coleman Collins (Va. Tech), Cliff Hammonds (Clemson), Jimmy Graham (Miami), Ben McCauley (N.C. State) and Kyle Visser (Wake Forest) to repeat as All-ACC Academic Team honorees.
Joining the six repeat performers on the academic team were Jack McClinton (Miami), Matt Morris (Clemson), Andrew Tyler (Clemson) and Lewis Witcher (Va. Tech). To be eligible for consideration, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Pocius averaged 1.9 points and 0.6 rebounds per game while playing in 27 contests a year ago. The Vilnius, Lithuania, native played a majority of the season with a severe ankle injury that required surgery in the offseason. Pocius had his best game as a Blue Devil in the opening round of the ACC Tournament when he scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point distance.
