Durham, N.C. - The Duke men’s soccer team reported to campus today and will go through two days of testing before starting preseason practice on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils had a busy summer which started with a 10-day trip to Germany. Duke experienced a new level of play, going head-to-head with two professional soccer teams from Russia. They also played against a local club team to start the trip. The trip, which featured tours of Munich, a castle built by King Ludwig II and Dachau, a German concentration camp during World War II, was capped off by a trip to Gelsenkirchen where they watched the first game of the 2006 FIFA World Cup for the United States as they took on the Czech Republic.
Here is a look at some of the other activities for the team throughout the summer:
Andrew Antila: Stayed in Europe with Kevin Stevenson following the team’s trip to Germany and traveled to Marsielle, France and Barcelona, Spain. The two ended up in Granada where they studied Spanish at the University of Granada.
Darrius Barnes: Played 11 games for the Raleigh Elite of the PDL South Atlantic division. He tallied two goals and an assist with eight shots in 990 minutes of action. The elite finished fourth in the division with a 4-7-5 record.
Tomek Charowski: Played 10 games for the Augusta Fireball of the PDL South Atlantic division. He recorded two goals to go along with three assists for seven points. He was on the field for 866 minutes and tallied 14 shots. The Fireball ended with a 3-2 loss to the Laredo Heat in the playoffs.
Paul Dudley: Competed with the FC Delco under-21 and under-23 teams. Helped lead both teams to EPSA State Cups Championships. They went on to compete in the USASA Region Championships where they made it to the finals.
Brendan Fitzgerald: Goalkeeper for the Rhode Island Stingrays of the PDL New England division. He played in three games, logging 225 minutes. He only allowed two goals for a 0.80 goals against average. He made 19 saves and recorded two shutouts. He posted a record of 2-1 to help lead his squad to a third place finish in the division as the Stingrays finished 6-8-2.
Joseph Germanese: Played 13 games for the Des Moines Menace of the PDL Heartland division. He recorded four goals and two assists. He was on the field for 929 minutes and took 32 shots. He helped lead the Menace to a second place finish and 10-4-2 record. They clinched a spot in the playoffs where they lost 5-3 on penalty kicks to the Chicago Fire after the game remained tied at 3-3 following regulation. His team also advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup before falling to the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS, 2-1, in the 92nd minute.
Kyle Helton: Appeared in six games for the Augusta Fireball of the PDL South Atlantic division. He logged 447 minutes and recorded two shots as the Fireball finished second with a 9-3-4 record.
Tim Jepson: Played in six games for the South California Seahorses of the PDL Southwest division. Jepson scored a goal on his only shot of the year and played 414 minutes. He helped lead his team to a first place finish and a 13-3 record. They lost 2-1 to the BYU Cougars in the playoffs.
Chris Loftus: Appeared in four games for the Raleigh Elite of the PDL South Atlantic division. He played 355 minutes and tallied a goal and an assist on seven shots as the Elite finished fourth in the league with a 4-7-5 record.
Justin Papadakis: Goalkeeper for the Augusta Fireball of the PDL South Atlantic division. He started 12 games and played 1,080 minutes. He gave up only 12 goals while stopping 71 shots. He posted a 7-1-4 record with four shutouts as his team finished second and ended the year at 9-3-4.
Ryan Pascioni: Internship with Moffatt & Nichol, an engineering firm in Orlando, Fla. His duties included working on roadway projects throughout the state of Florida.
Zach Pope: Played in seven games for the Austin Lightning of the PDL Mid South division. He recorded one assist in 488 minutes and took five shots. His team finished fifth in the league with a 3-11-2 mark.
Brad Ramsey: Member of the Carolina Dynamo of the PDL South Atlantic Division. His team finished the regular season undefeated at 14-0-2 and advanced to the playoffs where they lost 1-0 to Bradenton Academics. He played in two games, logging 10 mintues.

Michael Videira: Appeared in five games for the Raleigh Elite of the PDL South Atlantic division. He played 450 minutes with two goals on 13 shots. His team finished fourth in the league with a 4-7-5 record.
Spencer Wadsworth: Played in 10 games for the Raleigh Elite of the PDL South Atlantic division. He logged 685 minutes with four goals and two assists. His 10 points were second on the team as they finished fourth in the league with a 4-7-5 record.
The Blue Devils will practice twice on Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. They will have a scrimmage with Coastal Carolina on Sunday, August 13 and will have preseason contests against UNC Greensboro on August 16 and UConn on August 19. The regular season begins on August 25 when Duke hosts Hartford at 5 p.m.
