Duke senior Ryan Blaum earned second team All-America honors as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday. Blaum, the 2005 & 2006 ACC Player of the Year, is the only player in Duke men's golf history to earn All-America recognition three times. He was an honorable mention pick in 2004 and a first team All-America in 2005.
Blaum posted a 71.9 stroke average with seven top 10 showings while playing in strong fields week in and week out. The Coral Gables, Fla., native capped his career with a two-under 286 (72-73-69-72) to tie for 10th at the 2006 NCAA Championship.
Blaum, a member of the 2005 & 2006 Palmer Cup team for the United States, closed his senior season ranked ninth in the Sagarin/Golfweek Ratings and 16th in the Golfstat Cup. He finished the year with 20 round of under-par golf and two even-par rounds. Blaum's score counted towards Duke's team score in 35 of 36 rounds (.972), with the only non-counting round coming in the opening round of the Central Regional when he played through a severe stomach virus.
Joining Blaum on the second team are New Mexico?s Jay Choi, Erik Flores of UCLA, Georgia State?s Mark Haastrup, Brian Harman of Georgia, Oklahoma?s Anthony Kim, Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest, Florida?s Brett Stegmaier, Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech and Lamar?s Dawie Van der Walt.
