BOSTON, MASS.?Duke University senior Monique Currie became the second Blue Devil to be named a two-time Kodak All-America on Saturday at the 2006 NCAA Final Four in Boston, Mass., as the WBCA released the team at a press conference.
The 10-member Kodak All-America squad was revealed with Currie, Seimone Augustus (LSU), Jessica Davenport (Ohio State), Tasha Humphrey (Georgia), Ivory Latta (UNC), Courtney Paris (Oklahoma), Candace Parker (Tennessee), Cappie Pondexter (Rutgers), Candice Wiggins (Stanford), and Sophia Young (Baylor) rounding out the prestigious squad.
The honor for Currie and Duke marked the sixth straight year a Blue Devil has earned Kodak All-America honors, which is the longest current streak for any team in NCAA Division I. Currie joins former Blue Devil Alana Beard as the only repeat honorees as Kodak All-America.
A product of Washington, D.C., Currie has led the Blue Devils to a third NCAA Final Four appearance over the last five years. The 6-0 wing has averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 33 starts in 2005-06. She did all of this after averaging a career-low 27.3 minutes a contest due to the excellent depth of the Blue Devils.
She worked hard over the summer to improve her three-point shooting and it worked a she enters the Final Four hitting 42.4 percent of her treys and hit a career-best 42 of 99 from downtown.
Currie became the first player in ACC history to register over 2,000 points, 800 rebounds, 400 assists and 200 steals this season. She also totaled the only triple-double this season in the ACC with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists against Florida State in January.
Other Blue Devils who have been named Kodak All-America were Michele Bangor (1999), Georgia Schweitzer (2001), Beard (2002, 2003, 2004) and Iciss Tillis (2003).
The Blue Devils will take on LSU in the second semifinal contest on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. on ESPN.
