STANFORD, Calif. ? Senior harriers Clara Horowitz and Sally Meyerhoff rewrote Duke’s all-time top performances list in the 10,000m, posting the second and third best times in school history Friday at the Stanford Invitational while leading four Blue Devils to regional qualifying times.
Horowitz won the 10K by clocking 33:05.37, and Meyerhoff placed 13th in the competitive field that included 15 NCAA automatic qualifying times with her 33:39.53. Fellow senior Laura Stanley joined the pair in the 10,000m with a provisional qualifying mark of 34:32.66.
The long distance event was not the only success the Blue Devils found in Stanford. Sophomore Tiare Ferguson garnered a top-25 finish in the 5,000m by regionally qualifying in 16:29.52, and graduate student Kelly Fillnow ran a 17:28.50 to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Shannon Rowbury, who is redshirting this season, took second in the 5,000 (15:48.41) as an unattached competitor.
Freshman Anna Farias-Eisner also reached an ECAC mark in the 1500m by finishing in 4:29.09 and fourth place. Junior Lindsay Owen and sophomore Allison Stankavage completed a five-six finish in the 800m with tiems of 2:13.33 and 2:14.36, respectively. For the men, Eric Dooley threw 155-03 in the javelin.
Other Duke track and field members round out the weekend with competition Saturday at the 49er Classic hosted by Charlotte.
