DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke University head baseball coach Sean McNally announced Friday the addition of Ryan Shotzberger to his first collegiate coaching staff. Shotzberger, a 2004 graduate of Western Maryland College, will serve as a volunteer assistant coach, completing the baseball staff for the 2006 season.
Shotzberger, a team captain and four-time letterwinner at Western Maryland, finished with a career batting average of .380 and ranks among the school’s career leaders in doubles, triples and home runs. Following his graduation, Shotzberger spent the 2005 season on the staff of Charlie O’Brien at Cecil Community College, where his responsibilities included hitting and infield play.
“We are pleased to add an individual of great character who brings such energy and passion to the ballpark every day,” McNally said.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Shotzberger is single and resides in Durham. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science and physical education with minors in sports management and sports coaching at Western Maryland.
The Duke baseball team will open the 2006 season on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they play host to High Point University at 3 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field.
