DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. ? Former Duke All-America Brittany Lang became the second Blue Devil in 2005 to claim her LPGA Tour card on Sunday as the two-time All-America was one of three golfers who won in a playoff in the LPGA Qualifying School to finish in the top-24 and earn exempt status in 2006.
A native of McKinney, Texas, Lang played two years of golf at Duke, entered the final round in 21st place before firing a 73 on Sunday to finish with a five-day total of 70-72-75-73-73=363. She went to a three-hole playoff and finished one-under-par along with Christi Cano and Seol-An Jeon to earn the card.
Lang, who won six tournaments for the Duke women’s golf program in two seasons, tied for second place at the U.S. Women’s Open as an amateur in June. Since turning professional, she tied for sixth place at the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women’s Open in July. While at Duke, she won back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) individual titles in 2004 and 2005. The 2004 ACC Freshman of the Year, Lang was also named the 2005 ACC Player of the Year.
She joins four-time All-America Virada “Oui” Nirapathpongporn who earned her LPGA Tour card on the FUTURES Tour in August.
