Duke rookie linebacker Michael Brown has been named Second Team Freshman All-America by Rivals.com, announced on Tuesday by the national outlet.
A native of Houston, Texas, Brown started the final 10 games on defense for the Blue Devils and finished with a team-high 92 tackles along with 10.0 tackles for loss and three caused fumbles. His totals for tackles, tackles for loss and caused fumbles all led freshman linebackers nationally. Brown posted three double figure tackle games with 15 stops versus Wake Forest, 14 against North Carolina and 13 versus Florida State. In the season finale at North Carolina, he added three tackles for loss and the first quarterback sack of his career.
Brown, who averaged 11.8 tackles per game over the final five weeks of the season, became just the third freshman in Duke gridiron history to lead the Blue Devils in tackles, joining Erwin Sampson (1988) and Ryan Fowler (2000).
