DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University senior Virada Nirapathpongporn and sophomore Liz Janangelo each have been invited to play in the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship on March 25-28 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
It will mark the second straight year Nirapathpongporn will play in the Nabisco as the Bangkok, Thailand product finished tied 21st last year with rounds of 76-72-72-73=293. Nirapathpongporn is currently ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/Titleist Amateur rankings and No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College rankings. The 2003 U.S. Women's Amateur Champion, Nirapathpongporn competed in four tournaments during the fall for the Blue Devils collecting a 71.47 stroke average and had top-10 finishes in all four tournaments.
Janangelo is coming off a stellar fall campaign winning three of four tournaments played and is the top-rated golfer in Golfweek/Sagarin College rankings. The West Hartford, Conn., native posted a 69.73 stroke average in the fall and of 11 rounds played she registered nine rounds of even or under par to lead Duke. Over the summer, Janangelo finished tied for 30th at the U.S. Women's Open.
Duke opens the spring season on Feb. 22-24 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan Puerto Rico.
