Nigi Adogwa, Blake Camp and Jordan Cila were named to the inaugural North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men's Soccer Team, announced on Friday. Duke led all schools with three members on the all-state squad, while Wake Forest, Davidson and Gardner-Webb were each represented twice.
Adogwa, a junior forward from Port of Spain, Trinidad, who also earned third-team All-South recognition, led the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals (0.65) and points per game (1.53) while notching 11 goals and four assists for 26 points in 17 outings.
A sophomore midfielder, Camp was named to the All-ACC first team and ACC all-tournament squad. The Danielsville, Ga., native produced four goals and 10 assists on the year and led the conference in assists and assists per game (0.53).
Cila, a senior midfielder from Jericho, N.Y., tied for second among ACC assists leaders while tallying 14 points on three goals and eight assists. He ended his career ranked fifth on the all-time ACC assists list with 35.
ACC Player of the Year Jeremiah White of Wake Forest was joined by teammate Michael Parkhurst on the squad. White, a senior from Lansdowne, Pa., and Parkhurst, a sophomore from Cranston, R.I., were also first-team All-South region choices by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. White compiled the second-most votes of any player on the all-state team after he was named on 17 of 24 ballots.
Despite playing in only 15 matches, White ranked second in the ACC in points per game (1.40) while tallying 21 points on eight goals and five assists. He earned first-team All-ACC honors for the third time in his career and added ACC all-tournament recognition as well. The forward is also one of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy, which is presented annually to the top individual in college soccer.
Parkhurst was a starter in the Wake Forest defense which allowed only 16 goals in 20 matches. He was a first-team All-ACC pick for the 15-5 Deacons, who were seeded third in the NCAA Tournament.
Keeper Bart Creasman and defender Justin Porter represented Davidson, which won the Southern Conference regular season title outright for the first time since 1971, on the all-state squad. Creasman , a junior from Lake Mary, Fla., posted a 0.76 goals-against average and eight solo shutouts in the nets for the 15-6-2 Wildcats. He was a second-team All-SoCon choice and also earned a spot on the league all-tournament team.
Porter, a senior from Norman, Okla., led the all-state team with 20 of a possible 24 votes. He led the Wildcats defense to a 0.85 goals-against average, allowing just 20 goals in 23 outings. Of those 10 shutouts, three came in the SoCon tourney where Davidson earned the league crown and automatic berth in the NCAA Championship. Porter also was chosen for the all-conference second team and SoCon all-tournament unit.
Gardner-Webb midfielders Sergio Lozano and Carlitos Ramirez were named to the all-state squad after the Bulldogs followed a winless 2002 campaign with a 10-9-0 record in 2003. Lozano, a senior from Norcross, Ga., compiled career highs in goals (4), assists (14) and points (22), led the Atlantic Sun Conference in assists and ranked second nationally in assists per game. A second-team all-conference choice, Lozano had at least one assist in 11 of the 18 matches he played.
Ramirez, a junior from Norcross, Ga., tied for seventh among A-Sun scoring leaders with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. He was also chosen to the A-Sun all-conference second team.
Charlotte defender Joe Lampert was picked for the all-state team after he led the 49ers to the title game of the Conference USA tournament. A senior from Golden, Colo., Lampert was a third-team All-Conference USA choice and C-USA all-tournament selection. Charlotte tied number-six Saint Louis in the C-USA final, but fell on penalty kicks.
Campbell forward Brendon Barry was an all-state choice after ranking second among Atlantic Sun Conference players in points (28), while rating third in goals (12). The senior from Diego Martin, Trinidad was a second-team A-Sun all-conference selection who notched 36 points on 15 goals and six assists in 33 career games during his two seasons with Campbell. As a senior, Barry led all A-Sun scorers in conference games with nine goals in eight outings.
The all-state team consists of NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities, voted upon by NCCSIA members. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. The all-state soccer teams include one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards.
Forty-seven individuals were nominated for the all-state ballot by SIDs at 12 of the 15 Division I schools in North Carolina that participate in men's soccer.
