GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke seniors Chris Douglas and Matt Zielinski have earned First Team All-ACC honors as voted on by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and released on Monday afternoon by the Associated Press. Also, Duke's Ryan Fowler and Terrell Smith received second team all-league accolades.
Maryland paced the league with 13 total selections including 10 on the first and second squads. Clemson was second with 11 total honorees. It marks the first time that Duke has had multiple first team honorees since 1994 when Robert Baldwin, Ray Farmer, Matt Williams and John Zuanich were selected.
Douglas, a senior tailback from Sherrills Ford, N.C., closed out his career in 2003 by rushing for 1,138 yards and six touchdowns while becoming Duke's all-time leader in rushing yards (3,122) and all-purpose yards (5,648). He matched a Duke single-season record with his ACC-leading six 100-yard rushing games, topping the 100-yard barrier in four of the last five contests of the season. Douglas earned ACC Player of the Week honors following his 218-yard, two-touchdown performance in Duke's 41-17 win over Georgia Tech on November 8, and finished out the season by running for 119 yards and one touchdown in the Blue Devils' 30-22 victory over North Carolina.
