Junior defensive end Shawn Johnson of Duke was named First Team All-ACC for the 2002 season as voted on by the Atlantic Coast Conference Sports Media Association.
In addition, junior fullback Alex Wade earned second team all-conference honors while junior linebacker Ryan Fowler and junior defensive tackle Matt Zielinski picked up honorable mention recognition.
Johnson, a native of Fairport, N.Y., currently leads the ACC in both sacks (12) and tackles for loss (19.5). Both totals rank as the second highest single-season totals in Duke football history. He finished the year with 73 total tackles and a team-leading 12 quarterback hurries.
Wade, a native of Newtown, Pa., finished fourth in the league in rushing after gaining 979 yards on the ground. The yardage total ranks as the fifth highest single-season total in school history. In addition, Wade matched a school single-season record with an ACC-leading six 100-yard rushing games.
Fowler, a Redington Shores, Fla., product, led the Blue Devils in total tackles (145) for the third consecutive season. He recorded eight double-figure tackle games on the season, pushing his career total to 19 while increasing his career tackle total to 359 to rank seventh on Duke's career chart.
Zielinski, a native of East Amhurst, N.Y., led a Duke defensive line which helped the Blue Devils rank first in the ACC in rushing defense. He recorded season totals of 49 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, 10 quarterback hurries and three caused fumbles.
