Beard Scores 35 to Lead Duke Over Maryland, 90-74

DURHAM, N.C.--Sophomore Alana Beard erupted for 35 points, the fourth best single-game scoring effort in Blue Devil history, to lead 11th-ranked Duke (11-3 overall, 3-0 ACC) to a 90-74 win over conference foe Maryland (8-6 overall, 1-2 ACC).
Beard helped lead the Blue Devils to a 52-34 halftime lead, registering 25 first half points on 11-of-13 shooting from the floor and 3-of-3 shooting from the free throw line.
Duke led 27-18 with 10 minutes remaining in the opening half before senior guard Krista Gingrich broke the game open with three consecutive three-pointers to push the Blue Devil lead to 16 with 8:34 in the half.
Iciss Tillis also had a strong showing with career-highs in points (20) and steals (5). The sophomore forward went 8-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 from the charity stripe, while posting her league leading fifth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds to go along with her point total.
The Blue Devils shot over 50 percent for the sixth time in eight games, connecting on 37-of-71 (52.1 percent) shots from the field. Maryland also eclipsed the 50 percent plateau, shooting 52.9 percent from the floor.
The Terrapins received double-figures scoring efforts from Marche Strickland (17), Renneika Razor (16) and Deedee Warley (14) in the loss.
Beard's night included career-highs in field goals (15), points (35) and rebounds (11). She recorded the fourth double-double of her career to go along with eight assists and three steals in 36 minutes of action.
Freshman Monique Currie delivered 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and two steals off the Blue Devil bench.
