DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Scott Maslin (New City, N.Y.) recorded his fourth shutout of the season as the Duke men's soccer team blanked 12th-ranked Maryland, 1-0, on Saturday at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Duke notched its fourth shutout in six games to improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in ACC action, while Maryland falls to 3-3, 0-1. The Blue Devils improve to 7-0-1 in ACC openers over the last eight years.
The only goal of the match came at the 5:05 mark in the first half as junior Donald McIntosh (Lake Mary, Fla.) found junior Trevor Perea (Dallas, Texas) for his second goal of the season. Duke's defense, led by Maslin in goal, once again controlled most of the game and now owns a 0.50 goals against average on the season. The Blue Devils have allowed only three goals in six matches played.
The Blue Devils outshot the Terrapins 12-8 for the game.
Head Coach John Rennie notched his 190th home victory in 23 years at Duke. His home overall record is an amazing 190-49-15 in Durham.
Duke will be off all week until the Blue Devils travel down Tobacco Road to take on arch-rival North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 PM. The contest will be key in the Carlyle Cup competition between Duke and North Carolina.
