DURHAM, N.C. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2001 Women's Tennis Regional Award winner's on Tuesday with the second-ranked Duke Blue Devils notching four award winner's in the Southeast Region.
Blue Devil assistant coach Farley Taylor was selected Assistant Coach of the Year, freshman Ansley Cargill was named Rookie Player of the Year, freshman Amanda Johnson was selected Player to Watch, and senior Kathy Sell was awarded the Senior Player of the Year award.
Taylor is in her second year as assistant coach for the Blue Devils. She was a three-time All-America selection at Texas and led the Longhorns to the 1995 National Championship.
Cargill, the 2001 ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, has posted a 41-3 record in her first season at Duke. The Atlanta, Ga. native won the Riviera All-American in and the Carolina Classic in the fall and turned in a second place finish at the Rolex Championships in the spring. She is currently ranked second nationally.
Johnson is one of the top three ranked freshman in the nation as she is currently ranked 10th nationally. The Bettendorf, Iowa product, has tallied a 36-4 record for the Blue Devils this season playing at the number two and three positions.
Finally, Sell receives the senior honor after posting a 33-10 record in her final season at Duke. She is the second winningest singles player at Duke with 143 career wins and has been ranked no lower than 30th this season.
Duke will take on Texas in the NCAA Tournament final 16 Thursday at 11:00 AM in Stone Mountain, Ga.
