Duke's sensational freshman Alana Beard was also selected honorable mention Associated Press All-America. She is the only freshman mentioned by the Associated Press in its awards given out on Tuesday.
Schweitzer, who was just selected ACC Player of the Year for the second year in a row, is the leader for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils as she has started all 31 games this season and 96 consecutive for her career. Heading into NCAA Tournament action, Schweitzer is averaging 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, while leading Duke to a number one seed in the West Region. It marks the first number one seed for the Duke women's basketball program.
CBS Sportsline/Lindy's also just released its All-America teams and Schweitzer was named to the third team.
Beard, a native of Frierson, La., has swept the freshman of the year honors this season as she was selected CBS Sportsline, SI for Women, Sports Illustrated, Women's Basketball Journal, WomensCollegeHoops.com, and ACC Freshman of the Year. She leads Duke in scoring with a 16.5 points per game average and ranks 12th in the nation with a 3.5 steals per game average.
Duke will host the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at approximately 1:37 PM.
