GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke's Ramsey Smith and Ansley Cargill earn the first
week's Atlantic Coast Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Player of the
Week honors, respectively.
Smith, a senior from Hilton Head, S.C., led the Blue Devils to wins over
No. 18 Pepperdine and No. 19 Washington, before falling to top-ranked
Stanford in the semifinals of the National Team Indoor Championship in
Seattle, Washington.
On the week, Smith went 2-1 in singles with both victories coming over
ranked opponents. He currently holds a No. 8 ranking in singles and No.
28 in doubles with Michael Yani.
On the women's side, Duke freshman Ansley Cargill, the No. 1 ranked
singles player in the nation, went undefeated in both singles and
doubles over the weekend at the National Team Indoors. She went a
perfect 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. Cargill and teammate Kathy
Sell are ranked No. 35 in doubles.
With victories over Tennessee's Alison Ojeda, No. 14 Ipek Senoglu of
Pepperdine and No. 22 Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia, Cargill led the Blue
Devils to a 2-1 record on the week.
