Duke's 70,000-square foot, $20 million football building which is currently under construction will carry the name Yoh Football Center, announced by Director of Athletics Joe Alleva.
The facility, located at the north end of Wallace Wade Stadium, is set for completion in the summer of 2002 and will be named for Harold "Spike" and Mary Yoh, who made a $5 million gift in 1999 to help begin the building's funding.
"We are pleased and honored to have the Yoh name on our wonderful new football facility," Alleva said. "We are so thankful to Spike and Mary Yoh for their generous contributions to Duke University. The Yoh Football Center will be a tremendous training and recruiting site for football activities. We anxiously await its completion this summer."
The Yohs and their five children (Harold III, Michael, Karen, Jeffery and William) and a daughter-in-law (Sharon) collectively hold nine Duke degrees. The Yoh children also made a significant donation in their parents' honor to the football building, which The Yohs later matched, pushing the total Yoh contribution to $6 million.
Spike Yoh is currently the chairman of the Duke Board of Trustees and has been active with the Pratt School of Engineering. The Yohs both serve on the Athletics Advisory Board. The Yohs' other gifts to the university, including two professorships and a laboratory, have primarily supported the university's academic program.
The Yoh Football Center will include position meeting rooms, coaches' offices, a weight room, a speed and agility training area, a players' lounge, a recruitment area, an alumni lounge and trophy room and a viewing deck.
