Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus ACC Outdoor Championships on May 14, 2026

Duke took the early lead after a scramble in front North Carolina's net that found freshman forward Jordan Cila (Jericho, N.Y.) score his seventh of the year. The assist came from Donald McIntosh and Trevor Perea at the 22:04 mark. Duke was able to control the ball for most of the first half and took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Carolina came out strong in the second half, tying the score in the 48th minute on a well-placed shot by Eddie Robinson (Chris Carrieri assist). Twenty minutes later Carrieri scored a goal of his own for Carolina off a corner kick as he finished with a low ball to the right side netting. David Stokes added a third goal shortly after to put the Tar Heels up 3-1 with only 14 minutes left.
Duke's Robert Russell cut the UNC lead to 3-2 in the 83rd minute off an assist from Scott Noble and Perea, but Carolina finished the Blue Devils off with a final goal from Caleb Norkus with less than two minutes remaining. Michael Ueltschey (four saves) picked up the victory in goal for UNC, while Jeff Haywood (four saves) took the loss for Duke.
With the victory by North Carolina, the Tar Heels take a 7.5 to zero lead in the Carlyle Cup, a new all-sports rivalry between the two schools sponsored by the Greensboro-based jewelry company Carlyle and Company. The Blue Devils will look to rebound from the loss on Friday as The University of Buffalo will come to Durham. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
