DURHAM, N.C. – Twelfth-seeded Duke is set to battle fifth-seeded Arkansas in the NCAA Super Regional at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The best-of-three series is set to begin on Friday at 12 p.m. on ESPNU, with game two slated for 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2. The teams will play a winner-take-all game on Sunday, if necessary, with the winner advancing to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., from May 28- June 5.
Duke (43-15) advanced to its fourth NCAA Super Regional in the last five years after battling back to defeat Arizona twice Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils claimed an 8-6 victory in the opening game to keep their season alive and force a winner-take-all game seven. The Duke offense carried its momentum into the final game, aided by strong pitching performances from junior
Larissa Jacquez and sophomore
Mallory Wheeler, to defeat Arizona 9-4 and punch its Super Regional ticket.
Arkansas is 45-11 this season with a program-record 24 wins coming by run-rule. The Razorbacks were the only team in the NCAA to go 3-0 with three straight run-rule wins in regional, defeating Fordham, 8-0, and USF twice, 9-1 and 10-2, in six innings. It marked just the eighth time in NCAA Tournament history that a team had gone undefeated while winning each of its games by run-rule since the Super Regional format was introduced in 2005.
