DURHAM, N.C. – Senior
Aminah Vega and redshirt junior
Jessica Oakland represented Duke on the
SoftballAmerica All-America teams, earning first and second team honors, respectively, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
The duo picked up the second
SoftballAmerica All-America nods of their careers after Vega was named to the first team and Oakland garnered second team honors while at Minnesota in 2024.
Vega has been the engine to one of the nation's top offenses, leading the Blue Devils in batting average (.467), runs (86), hits (84), doubles (21) and triples (5) through 58 games this season. The DeBary, Florida, native has rewritten the Duke record books in her final season, setting the career doubles record with 67. She also set the single-season doubles record with her 21st double of the season Sunday against Arizona, passing Claire Davidson's mark of 20 in 2024. The 2024 NFCA First Team All-America selection sits second all-time at Duke with 299 career hits and matched
Ana Gold's career home runs record of 54 with her two-run shot versus the Wildcats. Vega is the only player in program history to garner NFCA All-Region honors in four consecutive seasons.
After missing the opening weekend due to injury, Oakland has started all 53 games at shortstop. The San Jose, California, product is one of just two players batting .450 or better and has tallied a career-high 77 hits with 11 doubles and 15 home runs. She sits second on the team with 69 RBI on the year. Oakland was named the NFCA National Player of the Week April 21, following an explosive performance at the plate in one of the final weeks of the regular season. The redshirt junior was also selected to the ACC All-Tournament team after batting 5-for-8 (.625) with four RBI during the two games to lead the offense. She recently earned the third NFCA All-Region recognition of her career and first with the Blue Devils after playing her first two seasons at Minnesota.
Duke advanced to its fourth NCAA Super Regional in the last five years and will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to face the fifth-seeded Razorbacks in a three-game series beginning Friday at 12 p.m.
