DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach Manny Diaz announced Thursday that quarterback Walker Eget has joined the Blue Devil gridiron program.
Eget played in 27 games with 18 starts for San Jose State University during the past five seasons. He guided the Spartans to a combined record of 29-33 and 19-20 in league action plus trips to the 2023 and 2024 Hawai'i Bowls and the 2022 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl since his arrival on campus for the 2021 campaign.Â
This past fall, Eget played in and started 11 games, completing 232-of-393 (.590) passes for 3,051 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his second season as a starter. On the ground, he added 33 rushing attempts for 96 yards. Eget ranked among the Mountain West Conference leaders in passing yards per game (2nd/277.36), yards per completion (2nd/13.13), completions per game (2nd/20.09), passing yards (3rd), yards per completion (3rd/13.15), total offensive yards per game (3rd/286.09), yards per pass attempt (3rd/7.76) and passing TDs (5th).Â
Eget, who will have one season of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2026 campaign, led a SJSU offense that ranked among the top 10 nationally in third down conversion percentage (2nd/.525), yards per completion (6th/14.32), team passing efficiency (7th/166.86) and points per game (9th/37.15). He threw for 458 yards against Hawai'i and completed 36-for-58 passes for 473 yards and three touchdowns versus Stanford. The 473 yards were the fourth most in an FBS game during the regular season.Â
During the 2024 season, Eget appeared in 12 games and started seven. He completed 118-of-328 (.573) passes for 2,504 yards and 13 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He added 29 rushing attempts for 99 yards. In one of the most exciting bowl games of the season, Eget completed 33-for-58 passes with two touchdowns and 280 yards in the Hawai'i Bowl against South Florida. He turned in one of his finest performances versus No. 13 Boise State with a 34-for-50 effort for 446 yards and three touchdowns. Â
He did not appear in any games during the 2023 season. As a redshirt freshman in 2022, Eget experienced action in three games and threw one incomplete pass while rushing one time for one yard. During his true freshman season of 2021, he appeared in one game, completing one-of-eight passes (.125) for eight yards.
A 6-3, 225-pound native of Santa Clarita, California, Eget was a first-team All-Foothill League quarterback for West Ranch High in Valencia, California. He was named the 2019 Los Angeles Daily News Newcomer of the Year and was an All-C.I.F. Division VII honoree. He led his team to the third round of the C.I.F. Southern California Division VII playoffs after throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns.Â
