DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach Manny Diaz announced Friday that running back CJ Campbell Jr. has signed a financial aid agreement to attend the institution and join the Blue Devil gridiron program.
The 5-10, 210-pound Campbell Jr. played in 32 games with Florida State (17), Florida Atlantic (12) and Rutgers (three) with 12 starts in the past five seasons. With the Seminoles during the 2022 season, Campbell Jr. experienced action in six games as Florida State went 13-1, captured the ACC title and appeared in the Capital One Orange Bowl. During the 2024 campaign at Florida Atlantic, he earned Third Team All-American Athletic Conference accolades.Â
This fall, Campbell Jr. played in three games at Rutgers with 22 carries for 119 yards (5.41). He tallied 11 carries for 71 yards against Ohio in the season opener and 10 for 45 yards the following week versus Miami (Ohio).
With FAU in 2024, Campbell Jr. played in all 12 games with 11 starts en route to earning Third Team All-American Athletic Conference accolades. He recorded 165 carries for 844 yards (5.12) with 11 touchdowns and stood eighth in the league with 70.33 rushing yards per game. He added 40 receptions for 466 yards (11.65) and three scores. He led the team with 1,310 all-purpose yards and ranked fifth in the league with 109.17 per game.Â
Campbell Jr. produced three 100-yard rushing efforts in 2024, against Wagner (129), Charlotte (150) and Tulsa (100). He collected two touchdowns each versus Connecticut, Wagner, USF and Temple. He totaled five games with at least 50 rushing and 50 receiving yards. He finished with two or more receptions in nine contests, four or more six times and tallied a year-high six versus North Texas and Temple. He collected a receiving score against USF, East Carolina and Tulsa.
During the 2023 campaign, Campbell Jr. played in 10 games with one start for Florida State. He rushed seven times for 117 yards (16.71) with a touchdown. He also contributed seven tackles on special teams. His lone start of the season came at wide receiver in the ACC Championship Game win over No. 15 Louisville.
In his 2022 season, Campbell Jr. played in the final six games and booked 18 carries for 65 yards (3.56) and two touchdowns to go along with a three-yard reception. His touchdowns came against Georgia Tech in his debut and the following week versus Miami. He produced a year-high eight carries for a season-best 28 yards (3.50) versus the Hurricanes. As a true freshman during the 2021 season, Campbell Jr. did not appear in any games, but was named the Florida State Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year.
Campbell, a Kaplan, Louisiana, native, will have one season of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2026 campaign. During his career, he has totaled 212 carries for 1,144 yards (5.40) and 14 touchdowns with an additional 41 receptions for 469 yards (11.44) and three scores.Â
