DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis doubles pairing of junior
Cooper Williams and senior
Pedro Rodenas earned Co-ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors. The duo opened the season with a pair of victories on court one and helped the Blue Devils go 3-0 over the weekend.
Against Elon in the season opener, Williams and Rodenas picked up Duke's first win of the campaign by claiming a 6-4 victory over Veljko Krstic and Nikola Parichkov. With the set even at 2-2 and 3-3, Duke broke and held to take a 5-3 lead. Elon got a game back on its serve, but the Blue Devils held on for the set.
In their doubles match against North Carolina Central, Williams and Rodenas won again on court one, topping Rodrigo Alves and Kareem Abdul Hakim, 6-2. Duke's duo led 4-1 and 5-1 before closing out the match.
Duke is back in action next weekend when it travels to NC State for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Blue Devils will face off against the No. 9 Wolfpack Friday at 1 p.m. before meeting either Tennessee or No. 13 Texas A&M Saturday. Timing for Saturday's match has yet to be determined.
