DURHAM, N.C. – With less than two weeks remaining until the Duke golf programs get set to open the 2026 portion of their schedule, there is still time to sign up for the Birdies for Babies program to benefit the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
Â
Over the eight and a half year history of the program, which was created by former women's golf national champion
Virginia Elena Carta, the Blue Devils have raised $142,183.15. So far in 2025-26, Duke has raised $5,553.05.Â
Â
If you are interested in supporting Duke's partnership with Duke Children's, you can pledge for each birdie made during the season or make a one-time donation. Pledges start at $0.50 and higher increments are welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (counts as two birdies), albatross (three birdies) or hole-in-one (four birdies), they will count as stated. For more information, click
here.
Â
The women's team is set to kick off the schedule Jan. 26-27 at the Sea Best Intercollegiate. It will be contested at the San Jose Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.Â
Â
The men's team opens action Feb. 2-3 at the Battle at Briar's Creek, which will take place at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, South Carolina.Â
Â
Both programs won one tournament in the fall and are primed for a very successful spring campaign.Â
Â
The creation of the Birdies for Babies program was spearheaded by Carta. A native of Udine, Italy, Carta was a four-time All-ACC selection and the 2016 NCAA Individual Champion. The 2016 WGCA All-America and Honda Award winner turned in an NCAA-record 16-under-par ledger of 272 as a rookie to register her first collegiate victory. She became one of only four Blue Devils to win both a NCAA Individual and team NCAA title.
Â
