DURHAM, N.C. – Duke graduate long snapper Curtis Cooper was selected to the preseason watch list for the Patrick Mannelly Award, an honor given to the nation's best long snapper.
Cooper, a two-time Academic All-ACC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection, has helped Duke's kickers convert 33-of-43 field goals and 73-of-75 points after touchdowns over the last two years. He has also assisted the punting units on 132 boots for 5,878 yards (44.53), including 48 downed inside the 20.
A native of Huntsville, Ala., Cooper is a 2025 Phil Steele Preseason All-ACC Second Team honoree. Last fall, Cooper helped punter Kade Reynoldson set a program record for punts by a Duke rookie (75) while helping kicker Todd Pelino convert on 15-of-20 field goals and 35-of-37 PAT attempts.Â
The award, named after former NFL long snapper and Duke football alumnus Patrick Mannelly, benefits Bernie's Book Bank. Mannelly, who lettered four years for the Blue Devils from 1993-97, was widely known as being the best long snapper in the modern NFL era. During his time in Durham, Mannelly was a four-year starting long snapper, while also becoming a two-year starter on the offensive line. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft and became their career leader in games played at 245.
Ten semifinalists will be announced November 17. Those names will be narrowed to three finalists announced December 1 and the winner selected at a live ceremony in Lake Bluff, Ill., December 13.
