DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke women's soccer tandem of
Mia Oliaro and
Cameron Roller have been named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced this week by the United Soccer Coaches.
The Blue Devil duo were two of 43 women's Division I soccer players recognized.
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. It is named in honor of the late Robert Hermann, the legendary St. Louis, Mo., businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, the first pro soccer league in the United States which became the North American Soccer League. He was inducted in the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.
It marks the second time in program history Duke has received two student-athletes on a watch list and the first since 2017 when Quinn and Imani Dorsey were honored as semifinalists.
A 2024 All-America selection and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Roller had a breakout season for the Blue Devils a year ago. She started all 22 matches for Duke as a sophomore and logged a team-high 1,864 minutes for a defense that collected 12 shutouts. Roller, who is from Sherman, Texas, also added four goals, four assists and 12 points from the backline. She registered the game-winner on the road at 17th-ranked California.
A native of Chapel Hill, Oliaro is coming off a very impressive sophomore campaign with eight goals and 13 assists for 29 points. She tied a Duke record with nine straight games with a goal or assist, while also posting two matches with two goals (Boston College and Wake Forest). A 2024 All-ACC second team selection, Oliaro totaled game-winning goals against three ACC foes last season – Virginia, SMU and Wake Forest.
Duke's
Michelle Cooper won the Hermann Trophy in 2022 and recent graduate
Maggie Graham was a semifinalist a season ago.
The Blue Devils are coming off an impressive come-from-behind, 3-2, victory over 11th-ranked Penn State Thursday in the season opener. Duke will next host Northwestern Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
