DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior running back and kickoff returner Peyton Jones was selected to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, an honor given to the most versatile player in the nation by The Louisville Sports Commission.
Jones returns for his third season as a Blue Devil. In 26 career games, he has 102 rushes for 388 yards (3.80) and four touchdowns. He has also returned 22 kickoffs for 470 yards (21.36).
A native of Norfolk, Va., Jones tallied three-plus carries on 14 occasions, eight-plus in six games and a career-high 12 versus Connecticut and at Miami in 2024. He accumulated 20-plus rushing yards eight times and reached the 40-yard rushing plateau three times, against Connecticut (40 yards), North Carolina (43 yards) and Miami (71 yards).
In 2024, Jones saw action in all 13 games, carding 82 rushes for 317 yards (3.87) with three touchdowns. He finished second on the team in rushing yardage and added eight receptions for 94 yards (11.75) and one score. Jones scored the game-winning touchdown on a 20-yard rush as Duke clawed back from a 20-0 deficit to defeat North Carolina, 21-20. He registered his first career two-touchdown game at Miami with a rushing and receiving score and set career highs with three receptions, 61 receiving yards and a 40-yard grab against the Hurricanes.
The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. The award is owned and operated by the LSC and presented by Texas Roadhouse.
